VM Hardware Settings & Guest Customization
VM Hardware Settings & Guest Customization
VM Hardware Settings & Guest Customization
The guest customization capability of vCloud Director is used to control certain operating system properties from the vCloud interface. These properties include the windows VM guest OS password, computer name, domain membership and sysprepping a VM on first deployment from a template. These configuration options are found by right clicking on the VM > Properties > Guest Customization tab. This enables the vCloud Director web interface to report the guest OS password and the VM IP address for ease of management.
Customers should be aware that changes to the VM hardware can trigger a partial or complete sysprep of the VM. This includes the following tasks:
initial deployment from a template
changing network adapters
changing the disk configuration
changing the Computer Name
Following the initial deployment of the VM, customers are advised therefore to configure the customization settings as they intend or require the VM to be configured. For example, to avoid hardware changes modifying the guest SID or password, Foreshore recommend unchecking "Enable Guest Customization". This will prevent vCloud from modifying the VM, including modifying the guest IP address following a network change.
